Research peptides travel as freeze-dried powder because it keeps better. To measure or study them, you dissolve them again; that step is called reconstitution. Bacteriostatic water is the usual diluent. Its 0.9% benzyl alcohol holds back bacterial growth, so after reconstitution a vial remains usable in the fridge for weeks, not just one session.

Sterile water contains no preservative, so a reconstituted vial needs to be used quickly. The bacteriostatic version contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol. That slows microbial growth and allows repeated draws from one vial over time, which is why labs prefer it when a vial is drawn from more than once.
