Lab handling of research peptides
A short bench guide to storing and reconstituting freeze-dried research material. Each section links to a longer article. For laboratory research use only.
First things
NordPeps material is for laboratory and in-vitro work only. It is not for use in people or animals, and this page gives no dosing or use instructions of any kind. Work on a clean surface, keep the batch details with the vial, and log each step in your lab notes.
Storage
A sealed freeze-dried vial can be kept at room temperature for a short period (under three months), away from light, heat and damp. For longer periods, store it at 2–8 °C or at −20 °C, and avoid thawing and refreezing it more than needed. After reconstitution, keep the solution in the fridge and use it within a few weeks. Reconstitution
Reconstitution turns the dry powder into a solution by adding bacteriostatic water. Let the water run gently down the glass wall instead of hitting the powder directly. Then swirl softly, or simply wait; do not shake. How much solution holds a given mass depends on the vial size and the water volume: the reconstitution calculator does the sum. Technique and solvent choice are covered in the reconstitution guide. Related reading: bacteriostatic vs sterile water and how long a reconstituted solution lasts.
Clean technique
Swab the rubber stopper with alcohol each time before you draw from the vial. Use a new sterile tip or needle for each aliquot, and keep fingers off the stopper and the tip. Label every solution with its contents and date, and keep it cold. Less contamination and fewer freeze-thaw cycles keep the material in better condition.
The batch certificate
Certificates from an independent third-party laboratory are published per batch on the certificates page as they become available. Check that the batch code on your vial matches the one on the certificate. The guide to reading a CoA explains each field.
Do the arithmetic
